The Underground Doctor

Charlie’s medical book, a fictional story fused with real medical facts and scenarios.

Surviving civil war

A local man in Northern Sierra Leone, respected as the village school headmaster, Hemon Brima Konteh wrote memoirs from his time during the brutal Sierra Leone Civil War. Due to failing health and his remote location, he was unable to get his memoirs published.

Then he met Charlie. Charlie began working for a period from his village in 2015 during the West Africa Ebola Epidemic. They ended up working closely together during the Crisis, and Charlie agreed that on his return to the UK, he would edit his memoirs and attempt to get them published. This is the finished version, which Charlie was luckily able to get back out to Sierra Leone to give Mr Konteh in person, shortly before he sadly died.

Mr Konteh’s brutal tales are a stark reminder of a harrowing time for the country, and a testament to his life and extreme resilience in the face of true darkness.

The purpose of thinking is to allow our thoughts to die, instead of ourselves.
